Fine Art Photography: Beyond Reality into a Dreamlike Realm

In the visual arts, the spirit of Realism emerged during the positivist era, when there was a belief that scientific, objective methods could solve or explain all human problems. This spirit was most evident in the widespread rejection of Romantic subjectivism and imagination, favouring a focus on Realism—an accurate and objective depiction of the ordinary, observable world. Realists emphasized scientific concepts of vision and studied the optical effects of light. This interest in light's behaviour led to the development of photography, a medium that aimed to capture reality truthfully and provide an accurate depiction of nature and contemporary life. However, photography also holds the power to distort reality, make false statements, or illuminate the beauty of the world.

Fine art photography often transcends the boundaries of reality, offering viewers a gateway into a world that exists between the tangible and the imagined. This genre is characterized by its emphasis on aesthetic beauty, conceptual depth, and emotional resonance, where the photographer's vision and creativity are paramount.

My photography reveals the beauty of the natural world and the rich history of great civilizations I've encountered during my travels. To push the boundaries of traditional art, I developed a technique known as Pintography. This method involves fusing images, transferring them onto canvas, and then enhancing them with oil paint, emphasizing the painterly quality of my work.

Just as the Impressionists discovered that painting could transcend mere replication of reality, I’ve created a dreamlike realm beyond the constraints of photography. By merging images and colour, I craft a world of fantasy and dreams where humanity coexists harmoniously with nature.

This process blends the timelessness and classical elements of photography with the modern medium of painting, creating works that challenge and blur the boundaries between these two artistic forms.
